UI & UX Designer (Product thinking, user journeys, visual mockups, engagement systems, frontend coding)

Project Overview

Franchise ecosystems involve multiple stakeholders with very different needs. Owners look for visibility and growth, buyers need clarity and confidence, and franchisors focus on lead quality and brand control. Most existing platforms stop at listings, failing to support trust, engagement, and long decision cycles. This project aimed to design a LinkedIn-like franchise ecosystem that brings together discovery, education, community, and performance insights in one cohesive experience.

My Core Design Challenge

The key challenge was designing a single platform for three different users: franchise owners, potential buyers, and franchisors, each with distinct goals and expectations.

The platform needed to:

  • Enable collaboration and community engagement

  • Support lead generation for franchise buying and selling

  • Encourage users to share their journey and experiences

  • Remain simple, exclusive, and easy to navigate

The final challenge was design simplicity. Bringing community, content, discovery, and communication into one place required a clean, exclusive, and easy-to-navigate UI that users could understand instantly, even while managing complex information and interactions.

User-Centric Toolkit Followed

User Research

To understand the real needs of the franchise ecosystem, I started with internal discussions with stakeholders to learn their expectations, business goals, and the challenges they were facing in connecting buyers and sellers.

I also explored real franchise buyer journeys online to understand how difficult it is for users to:

  • Identify franchises within their budget

  • Compare options confidently

  • Trust the information available before making a decision

In parallel, I conducted a competitive analysis of existing franchise platforms, studying how they handle listings, community engagement, lead generation, and where users tend to drop off or disengage.

Research Insights

Through stakeholder discussions and competitive analysis, I identified key gaps in existing franchise platforms:

  • Buyers lacked space to explore, compare, and ask deeper questions about franchises

  • Most competitors focused heavily on lead generation, but neglected buyer experience and education

  • Listings were often incomplete or unclear, making comparison difficult

  • There was no direct, trust-building connection between buyers and franchise owners

  • No single platform focused on community, transparency, and confidence-building

These insights highlighted the need for a trust-first franchise platform that prioritizes clarity, learning, and meaningful connections — not just lead collection.

My Key Observations

After reviewing platforms like BizBuySell, VettedBiz, FranchiseIndia, FranchiseDirect, and FranchiseGator, a few clear gaps stood out:

Most platforms are lead-driven, not buyer-empathetic

  • Franchise listings are often incomplete and hard to compare

  • Buyers have limited options to explore within budget

  • There is no direct, trust-building interaction with franchise owners

  • Community-driven learning and real journeys are largely missing

These gaps highlighted the need for a trust-first, community-led franchise platform that supports exploration, learning, and meaningful connections not just lead collection.

User Journey Mapping

1. Explore Without Login

Users land on the platform and can immediately browse franchise listings without signing up. This removes early friction and allows users to explore freely before committing.

2. Discover Through Advanced Search

Users use advanced filters such as industry, investment range, and location to quickly narrow down relevant franchise options and save time during exploration.

3. Franchise Profile Exploration

Each franchise has a dedicated profile page with structured information, making it easier for users to understand, compare, and shortlist opportunities.

4. Intent-Based Login

When users want to take actions like saving, following, comparing, or contacting, they are prompted to log in ensuring login feels purposeful, not forced.

5. Personalized Dashboard Experience

After login, users receive a role-based dashboard where they can:

  • Post updates

  • Follow franchises or users

  • Track interests and activities

  • Receive personalized recommendations

6. Ongoing Engagement & Community

Users interact through a personalized feed, recommendations, and community content based on their behavior encouraging learning, trust, and long-term engagement.

Building the Structure

I began with rough flows and layout sketches to explore. I designed one simple user flow that works for all users. Instead of separating journeys, I focused on making the platform easy to explore first, then gradually guide users toward interaction and engagement.

Visual Style Guide

Created a visual style guide to maintain consistency across the platform, defining color hierarchy, typography, and iconography to support clarity across all user roles.

Solution Proposed

  1. We designed and built a centralized franchise platform that combines discovery, learning, and community into one experience.

  2. Personalized dashboards were created for each user type, showing performance metrics, leads, inquiries, profile completion, and smart recommendations helping users take action quickly.

  3. A community-driven layer, inspired by LinkedIn and Quora, allowed users to post journeys, ask questions, and mentor others. Active participation increased visibility, trust, and overall engagement.

  4. Smart, role-based notifications (in-app and email) informed users about new inquiries, wishlist updates, profile reminders, and upcoming webinars or events.

  5. Beyond design, key screens were implemented using HTML and CSS, with API integration and data flow considered to support dynamic content and scalability. Multiple screens across listings, profiles, dashboards, and community were designed to deliver a complete, real-world product experience.

Reflection

This project strengthened my ability to design complex, multi-user systems and think beyond screens, focusing on behavior, incentives, and long-term engagement. It pushed me from interface design to product-level thinking.

Final Visual Mockups

Due to time constraints, I moved directly into high-fidelity visual design. This approach enabled faster stakeholder alignment and quicker iterations through immediate visual feedback. In total, I designed 70+ high-fidelity screens covering listings, dashboards, community, profiles, and feed.
